Kristin, If you want to waste your own time waiting for a completely unnecessary gas station attendant to show up, please feel free to do so. I, however, have other plans for my time. Regards, American Phoenix

"Since I am the one being affected by this silly law, I have every right to complain. Waiting for ten mintues for some guy to pump my gas when I could have done it myself is annoying and a big waste of my time."

If you are that strapped for time, that you can't spare an extra 10 minutes (if that), once a week, then you are spreading yourself too thin. Maybe you need to simplify you life, slow down, and enjoy being alive instead of worrying about the few times a year that you drive through Oregon and "waste" those precious 10 minutes.

I applaud your bravery for standing up for what you believe is right. It's also somewhat amusing that you brought your ham radio. But hey, I guess it was 2008 and Twitter wasn't around!

As for the ridiculous signage, it's just nice that they're wearing their stupidity on their sleeves -- makes it real easy to grasp who you're confronting.

The point never mentioned (and indeed I wonder if the bishops are even aware of it) is the overwhelming statistic on defensive firearms usage in the US. Yes, approximately 30,000 people die, and more are injured, but these numbers are dwarfed by the use of handguns to prevent 2.5 MILLION crimes (assault, rape, murder, home invasion, and on and on) per year. The TRUE story on civilian firearms is that their current usage pattern is in exact compliance with the Catechisms teachings.

Julia,
"...get jobs without too many people frowning"!?!?!? What century are you living in? No one frowned when I went to law school. No one frowned when I worked through my 20s and 30s and into my 40s. NO ONE. Women, at least in California because of the community property laws (which, by the way, came from Catholic Spain, not Protestant England, and is true of all of the former Spanish possessions), were allowed to own and deal with their own property well before California became a state and well before suffrage.

<a href="http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/09/the_wage_gap_myth.html" rel="nofollow">The wage gap is a myth</a>, not a fact. <a href="http://www.ncpa.org/pdfs/ba392.pdf" rel="nofollow">"Claims of unequal pay almost always involve comparing apples and oranges."</a> When women do the SAME job as men, there's almost no disparity. But women make different choices. They choose to be mothers and leave the workforce. They choose flex time and benefits over higher wages. If you really want to do a comparison, you have to do an apples to apples comparison. <a href="http://abcnews.go.com/2020/GiveMeABreak/story?id=797045&page=1" rel="nofollow">And you have to have these pesky little things called facts to back up your arguments. (By the way, ABC is not exactly a right wing source of news...)</a>

I'm really not sure how you can legitimately claim that feminism is not a political movement. Perhaps you didn't live through the 1970s, but I can assure you that I did.

Inga Muscio is a respected feminist author? She's no Betty Friedan, Gloria Steinem, Margaret Atwood, or Maya Angelou. I'll leave it at that.

You are right, we do not have the inequality problems we had in the past, women can vote, they can get jobs without too many people frowning, and they can obtain credit cards and real-estate without a signature from their father or husband.
The wage gap still exists. It is a solid fact.

The term feminism is defined as "the legal, social, and economic equality of women" and many adapt it to "all people".

On the issue of abortion feminism is not a political movement, and pro-life and pro-choice feminists both exist.

"The squabble between pro-lifers and pro-choicers serves only to keep our eyes off the target, and nothing more."
